Continuing the grandparent training conducted every Tuesday as part of the project 'If You Don't Have a Problem, We Expect You Tonight' organized by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Faculty of Education. In this week's program, the risks encountered in the digital world were addressed, and important information was provided to participants regarding safe internet usage.
At the event held at Gar Cafe, topics such as digital security, fraud methods, password theft, fake news, harmful links, and the protection of personal data were emphasized.
In the opening speech of the program, Prof. Dr. Perihan Ünüvar, Director of the Institute of Educational Sciences, expressed her satisfaction with the interest shown in the project, stating that not only parents but also grandmothers, grandfathers, and other relatives play an important role in children's development.
Prof. Dr. Ünüvar pointed out that the increasing incidents of violence among children and young people often stem from a 'need to be noticed' and emphasized the great importance of children feeling loved and valued within the family. She noted that the unconscious use of technology isolates children and highlighted the impact of strong family ties on children's healthy development.
Continuing the education, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özge Özel from the Department of Basic Education at the Faculty of Education explained the risks encountered in the digital world with examples. Özel, who particularly emphasized that children are at greater risk in the online environment, stated that anyone, regardless of age or education level, could fall victim to digital fraud.
Özel pointed out that personal information should never be shared and called on citizens to be cautious about fake messages and unknown links. She highlighted the importance of using strong passwords, stating that using a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters in bank and digital banking passwords would enhance security.
Özel also warned families about sharing children's photos on social media, stating that privacy settings of accounts should be checked and emphasized the importance of sharing children's images only in a way that can be seen by trusted individuals.
At the end of the event, participants contributed to the program by sharing their own experiences or fraud incidents they encountered in their surroundings.
